A crocheted afghan is a great gift for family and friends. Working crochet left-handed is just as easy as working it right-handed.
Crochet yarns are by nature very soft. You can tell what batch the yarn comes from by looking at the batch number on the ball band. Now the reason you are reading this article is because you are looking to expand your knowledge of crochet patterns.
When you finish the crocheted item, take a picture of it and keep it in a photo album so when someone asks what you crochet, you can show them. When using a substitute yarn make sure the length is the same as the one suggested in the pattern. Even so, you may still need to play around wth the tension - adding or reducing the number of stitches until the tension square matches that in the pattern.
Some crocheting, such as lace, is actually much easier to follow using a chart, than reading written instructions. Some of the more common stitches are chain, single crochet, half-double crochet, double crochet, popcorn crochet, and cluster crochet. Similar, but easier than learning a foreign language, after a bit of study, crochet abbreviations and symbols will make perfect sense!
That is one of the great things about crochet. Once completed the finished product can be given away to family and friends.
