crochet bedspread

Crochet is derived from the French word croc or croche, meaning hook. If you are just beginning I would recommend a medium weight yarn, a basic four-ply yarn of good quality.

The internet is full of websites that can teach you crochet. Crochet is one of those great crafts because you can get started really quickly with nice projects that will not have people asking you what is that going to be when it is finished. If for some reason there is not an abbreviation key then feel free to use any one of the crochet how-to manuals that you have on hand to help you understand the abbreviations.

While it may take a while to learn the symbols, they can save space, and after awhile, many experienced crocheters find them easier to read. You can find the patterns at local craft stores or online where pattern sites offer many from which to choose. Yarns are now made in many different varieties for crocheting use.

The most important thing to remember when starting to crochet is not to get overwhelmed. Just get yourself a crochet tote bag (or crochet one yourself) and you are ready to go.
